Christian Children's Fund

What does this have to do with puppets?
Nothing, but it's even more important to me. :-)

It begins at home

When I was growing up, my parents always sponsored children through Christian Children's Fund. I corresponded with many of them over the years, and got to know them as family, even though they lived all over the world.

Eight years ago, when I got my first "real" job, I decided to become a sponsor too, and was blessed with a beautiful a seven-year-old boy in Thailand. His father died of AIDS when was young, and his mother abandoned him. He lived with his grandfather, who earned just US $200 a year as a farm laborer. When his grandfather died, he went to live with his uncle, who soon died of an unexpected stroke. His mother finally returned to take care of him, but soon after died of cancer. He is now a courageous, caring, intelligent 15-year-old young man, and though I sometimes wish I could just fly to Thaliand and give him a hug, I hope my support has helped him through all his difficult times. (He says he saves every letter and card I send him.)

Not long after my first child, I also sponsored a girl in Kenya. Like many places in Africa, her area often struggles with drought. CCF has helped bring them clean drinking water, food to ward off starvation, and an education for the future. Schooling is often an unknown privilege in many parts of the world, epsecially for girls, but just recently, I got the first letter from her family that she had written herself!

It's more than the money

"To the world, you might be one person, but to one person, you might be the world."

Although CCF provides many needed services, such as access to clean drinking water, sanitation, nutrition programs, agricultural assistance, housing, medical care, and education and supplies, one of the most important things it provides is hope.

Every child, ever person needs to know that there is someone on this earth who cares about them. Some of the children get this love from their families, but others may not. Even those who have families can benefit from knowing others are interested in their future.

Your letters may be the force in their lives that encourages them not to give up, to get an education, to have hope for the future.

It's up to you

Too often, when we see crises in the media or on TV, we are overwhelmed by the magnitude of suffering in this world. Is there anything we can do? Will it even make a difference?

With CCF's sponsorship programs, you have a chance to make a difference for both a whole community, and an individual child. Your monthly donation goes to the child's project, so that it can benefit everyone, with projects like schools and clean water facilities, so that the many children who are still waiting for a sponsor can be helped, but you also have a chance to send letters and special donations (for Christmas, birthdays, or just because!) to your particular child.

CCF works toward both long-term goals and immediate needs. They're working on improving nutrition and agricultural methods, so that when the next drought, tsunami, or disaster strikes, the suffering won't be so great. But they also know that people don't eat in the long term, and they're there with emergency food supplies, as well as help for those striken by war or disaster.

It's the best investment for the future

All you need to sponsor a child is 80 cents day, 10 minutes a month to write a card or letter, and a heart with compassion.

When you invest money in a bank or the stock market, you only get more money. When you invest in children, you not only get love (which everyone knows is worth more than money!), you get a better future for the whole world.

I hope that if you decide to sponsor, you too will consider it one of your best investments.

It's your turn

Thanks for taking the time to read my story about Christian Children's Fund. I hope it will inspire you to consider starting a sponsorship story of your own!
